Building in Cashiers and Jackson County, NC

In addition to developments and subdivisions which may have their own building criteria, the county requires and issues additional permits. For homes being built in Cashiers, these permits are procured from the Jackson County Building Inspections Department which includes Permitting and Code Enforcement.

Jackson County enforces the building regulations outlined in the most current versions of the NC Building Codes and National Electric Code (NEC). North Carolina General Statute requires the issuance of a building permit prior to construction, alteration, or repair of any building or building system. Permits that must be obtained to build a home in Cashiers may typically include:

  • Land clearing permit
  • Building permit
  • Septic/ Sewer permit
  • Power application to Duke Energy

As the builder, Sadlon and Associates act as owners’ Agent to obtain the necessary permits. The property owner is not a part of the permitting process other than providing their contact information, however, the application for electric services is the responsibility of the property owner.

  • Date you need the service (NOTE: Please allow three days to process online requests)
  • Mailing address (if different from the physical address)
  • Date of birth
  • Social Security # or Federal Tax ID
  • Spouse / roommate information
